Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. I am currently in-network with Aetna and am in the process of credentialing with Blue Cross Blue Shield and UnitedHealthcare. If you have one of these plans, your evaluation may be covered in full or in part depending on your specific benefits.
Because coverage varies significantly from plan to plan, I recommend calling the member services number on the back of your insurance card before scheduling. Ask specifically about your benefits for psychological testing and whether prior authorization is required. I am happy to help walk you through this process if you have questions.
If you have a different insurance plan, I can provide a detailed superbill after your evaluation that you can submit to your insurer for potential out-of-network reimbursement. Many plans offer partial reimbursement for out-of-network services, though this varies by plan.
Private pay is also available for those who prefer not to use insurance or whose plans do not provide coverage. Please visit the Fees page for more information on private pay rates.

It depends on the type of evaluation. Some assessments can be completed entirely via secure telehealth, while others require at least one in-person session for hands-on testing.
Virtual evaluations are available to anyone located anywhere in Florida. These are conducted through a secure, HIPAA-compliant video platform and are just as thorough as in-person appointments. The Comprehensive ADHD Evaluation and the Comprehensive Adult Autism and ADHD Evaluation are both available virtually or in person.
In-person evaluations are conducted in my office in downtown Tampa. Evaluations that include cognitive or academic testing, such as the Comprehensive ADHD and Cognitive and Academic Testing, Learning Disability Evaluation, and Gifted Evaluation, require at least one in-person session.
If you are unsure whether your evaluation can be completed virtually or requires an in-person visit, feel free to reach out and I will help you figure out the best option for your situation.

Every evaluation involves multiple appointments spread across a few weeks rather than a single long session. This allows time for rating scales to be completed by all respondents, for me to thoroughly score and interpret the results, and for a meaningful feedback session where we review the findings together.
Clinical interviews range from one to two hours depending on the evaluation and whether the client is a child or adult. For children and adolescents, separate interviews are conducted with the parent and the child.
Testing sessions, where applicable, typically run three to four hours and are conducted in person in downtown Tampa.
Feedback sessions run approximately 45 to 60 minutes for most evaluations, and 20 to 30 minutes for Gifted Evaluations.
In total, appointment time across all sessions ranges from approximately two to three hours for more streamlined evaluations to six to eight hours for evaluations that include cognitive and academic testing.
How long until I receive my report? For most evaluations, you can expect your written report within two to three weeks of completing your final testing appointment. Gifted Evaluation reports are typically available within one week.

What is included in an evaluation?
Every evaluation at HarbourPoint is comprehensive and tailored to your specific referral question. While the exact components vary depending on the type of evaluation, all evaluations include the following:
A clinical interview. We begin with a thorough conversation covering your developmental, medical, academic, and psychosocial history. For children, this typically involves separate interviews with the parent and the child. This is one of the most important parts of the process — it gives me the context I need to interpret your results accurately and make sure nothing gets missed.
Standardized assessment. Depending on the evaluation, this may include rating scales completed by you and the people who know you best, performance-based cognitive or academic testing, or structured observational assessment. All measures used are evidence-based and appropriate for your age and referral question.
Scoring and interpretation. After the assessment is complete, I spend significant time reviewing and integrating all of the data, considering how different pieces of information fit together, and arriving at diagnostic conclusions that are well-supported and carefully considered.
A comprehensive written report. You will receive a detailed report that explains the findings in clear, accessible language. It includes diagnostic conclusions, a profile of your strengths and challenges, and specific, practical recommendations you can take to your school, workplace, or treatment providers.
A feedback session. We meet to walk through the results together. This is your opportunity to ask questions, make sure you understand the findings, and talk through next steps. I want you to leave feeling informed and confident about what comes next, not overwhelmed by a stack of papers.
